Loosening the Upper Back for Fast Lower Back Pain Relief Using a Yoga Strap

In this exercise I will show you an exercise that I have shown you earlier for loosening the upper back for fast lower back pain relief but this time I will use a yoga strap. You can use a regular belt from the closet or you can buy a yoga strap from my site, or use your own yoga strap. I lie on my back flat on the table, or sticky mat, or yoga mat, or on the floor, and I take the strap; take it down around my ankles. When you lie on your back, you don’t want to be on a too soft of a surface; you want to be on a pretty firm surface such as this table. Now, my knees are bent; my feet are straight, not facing outward or inward, and flat on the table. I generally do this on the floor but today I’m doing it on a table. The strap is up close around my ankles, at the base of my ankles right at the top of my feet. The flat part of the yoga strap is on my skin, so it does not twist and cut into my skin when I tighten it. Now, remember, in order for me to perform this exercise I’m going to be turning my arms outwards, my palms facing outwards, to open up this chest and allow the upper back and the chest to open and lengthen and release, because that’s my goal here, so that I can find uniformity in the functionality of the spine, the movement of the spine. So the bottom part of the spine, where the low back pain is, doesn’t have to move too much like it normally does. Now, I reach for the ends of the strap at my ankles, and grab the strap, and I turn my hands outwards, clenched palms gripping the ends of the strap facing outwards, to open up my chest. And then I look at the ceiling, as I arch my back. I don’t want my neck to be turned sideways as I might damage my neck, and I don’t want you to get hurt either. Then I push my weight down to my feet. I push through my feet, and I start to lift my buttocks. What I’m doing is I’m basically cantilevering my up and on to my shoulders, and then I come back down. And then I go a little higher. Notice here that I don’t go very high when I first start doing this exercise; this is the level where I start. But as I do this more and more times, slowly; I wouldn’t really advice that you do it faster than normal. Just push into the feet, pushing yourself up gradually higher than your shoulders, keeping your knees parallel, and relaxing your neck so that you can get mobility in the upper back.

These exercises can be difficult to practice in the beginning but they can definitely save you from a prolonged treatment for chronic lower back pain that can be even more tiring.
Meditation and chronic lower back ache:
Meditation calms down the body and releases all kinds of stress and tension from the body. Meditation is preferred by many to chronic lower back pain treatment, since meditation heals, relaxes and cleanses the body. Breathing is the most prominent part of meditation. Particular kinds of breathing patterns relax the whole body and help you to lessen the pain.
An inner peace surrounds you, when you practice meditation. The emotional and attitudinal transformation that you experience while meditating helps you counter pain, illness and stress. This in turn reduces the symptoms of the diseases like chronic lower back and hip pain and improves the health of a person.

Meditation and visualization:
In recent times, yoga teachers have started using visualization techniques for removing pain and anxiety. Visualizing something pleasant and exciting can bring happiness. Yoga For Low Back Pain

Back pain is the most common reason people seek medical attention. Using yoga for low back pain relief works on both long term and acute muscle strain by strengthening the muscles and improving flexibility.

A study of 101 sufferers of chronic back pain proved that a gentle form of yoga, called viniyoga, was more effective at relieving lower back pain than aerobic exercise. By toning the muscles, relieving tension and improving all over flexibility, those who used yoga for low back pain saw improved function of their lower backs. These effects relieved the pain and were found to last long after the study ended.

Tight hamstrings and weak stomach muscles also contribute to back pain. Postures used in yoga for low back pain, while not able to provide instant relief, will alleviate lower back pain over time. If you suffer from back pain, it’s advised to ease into yoga to prevent further injury. Performing the poses slowly and only stretching to within your comfort zone is the best course of action.

A pose to try when using yoga for low back pain is the Asanas yoga position called the lying twist. While lying on your back, stretch your arms out to your sides. Your palms and shoulders should be pressed firmly against the floor, with your shoulder blades turned under and your toes spread. Bend your knees up toward your chest as far as comfortable possible, making sure to inhale as you lift. Keep your knees and ankles together and exhale while rolling your knees to the right.

Keep focused on pressing your arms outward and your shoulders firmly pressed into the floor. Be sure you are breathing deeply while holding this pose. Now gently turn your head to look at your left hand. Concentrate on relaxing and feeling the gentle stretch of this pose. Using this type of yoga for low back pain will stretch the spine and neck, as well as strengthen the muscles in your midsection.

Prevention is always the best medicine. While using yoga for low back pain can help with previous injuries, learning how not to repeat the injury is an essential part of keeping your back muscles healthy. When bending to pick something up, even a light object, it’s important to protect your lower back. For a light object use a one handed lift, while using the other hand to brace against your thigh or a nearby piece of furniture for added support.

Heavier objects, or moving objects such as a child, should always be lifted with two hands. Place your feet apart in a wide stance and face the object to be lifted. Standing close to the object, squat down and place your weight on your heels. Push your body up to a standing position with your leg muscles, using your tightened abdominal muscles to keep your spine straight.

By practicing safe lifting techniques and exercising your back muscles properly and regularly, most back pain can be avoided. If muscles are injured, easing yourself into yoga can be a beneficial and healthy treatment for your pain. Therefore, the next time your back gives you grief, try using yoga for low back pain reduction.
