It appears that today’s hectic and fast paced lifestyle is leading to more complaints centering around lower back and hip pain. To properly treat this type of pain, we first need to have a good understanding of its causes.

Acute lower back and hip pain is not only debilitating but can affect many things you do and normally take for granted like your work and leisure activities. In addition, if untreated, it can lead to other chronic nerve or bone problems. With a high percentage of Americans suffering from back and hip pain, it is a very big problem.

Lower Back and Hip Pain

The best way to treat this type of pain is to first discover its main causes and then treat them. Because lower back pain can be caused by a great number of different things, the root causes can vary from person to person.

On its own, lower back pain can be very hard to bear but when it is combined with hip pain, then it can be extreme. Unfortunately, it is the norm to experience pain in the lower back and hip at the same time. Very often, this type of pain is a consequence of aging but it can affect young people as well for a variety of reasons.

MAIN CAUSES OF LOWER BACK and HIP PAIN

There are four main causes of pain in these areas of your body:

Inflammation

joints being out of alignment

muscle weakness and

muscle tightness.

As mentioned above, aging can contribute to these causes but so can injuries or strains in the lower back. Also, pelvic distortion can lead to pain in the lower back and hips as can partial dislocation of the hip joints.

Other conditions that may increase the risk of lower back and hip pain include arthritis, smoking, pregnancy, infections in the organs lower in the abdomen or of the pelvis, fractures, obesity, heavy lifting etc.

Classifications of Pain

Pain in the hip and lower back is classified as acute, sub-acute or chronic.
ACUTE PAIN – This is mainly caused by accidents or excessive or overuse of the back muscles and usually affects soft tissue such as tendons or ligaments. The pain is usually noticeable after a sudden movement. People suffering from acute back and hip pain might have difficulty in walking, stiffness in the joints, suffer from constipation and find sleeping difficult.

SUB-ACUTE PAIN - People suffering from sub-acute pain may find healing takes longer, often up to a few weeks.

CHRONIC PAIN – This is the most serious and often recovery is very protracted if at all. People suffering from chronic back pain often require medication or regular exercise to keep their symptoms and pain level manageable. Chronic pain can be caused by conditions like osteoarthritis, arthritis, slip disc, herniated disc and fracture of a vertebra.

SYMPTOMS OF LOWER BACK AND HIP PAIN

When diagnosing lower back and hip pain, there are several symptoms that should be looked for. Among these are pain in the upper spine area, pain following an accident or injury that seems to be getting worse, the onslaught of a sudden fever along with back pain and genetic abnormalities such as structural disorder of the leg (for example one leg being longer than the other) and of the feet .

TREATMENT of LOWER BACK AND HIP PAIN

Since the causes of this type of pain can be so varied it is always best to consult your doctor or preferred health care professional. Of-course one who has expertise in the lower back and hip area would be preferred and so you may be referred to specialist.

Treatments can vary depending on the main cause of the pain and the age of the person concerned. Massage, acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments might be suitable for some people, others may need to use anti-inflammatories, yoga or homeopathic treatments. In many cases building up surrounding muscles using exercise and weight training can be most beneficial. As a last resort there is always the surgical option

Treating the symptoms of the pain is a short term strategy. Finding the root cause of the lower back and hip pain and basing the diagnosis and treatment on that is the only way to manage the problem in the long term.

Understanding Back Pain

The causes of back pain are numerous; some are self-inflicted due to a lifetime of bad habits and other back pain causes include accidents, muscle strains, and sports injuries. Although the causes may be … Sharp, localized pain in the neck, upper back, or lower back — especially after lifting heavy objects or engaging in other strenuous activity.

my mom is a bit heavier than the perfect weight and she is having a lot of trouble with her lower back that she cant sleep cook or do anything for more than10.

What is the Best Ointment or Spray or Solution for Severe Back Pain?

I had two surgeries: neck fusion and hip graft, and lower back leminactomy. I have severe pain morning, day and night. What kind of solution, spray, or ointment. … The ointment or sprays or solutions for back pain, or neck pain or joint pain…they act by ‘confusing’ the pain. As they don’t really get to the problem that causes the pain, as they don’t usually penetrate the skin.

But there are actually many different causes of lower back pain. In some cases you may experience lower back pain from an injury of some sort like falling or twisting your body.

Upper back pain is less common than lower back pain, but it causes some people a great deal of discomfort.

What Are Some Causes of Lower Back Pain?

The pain is all on my left side of my back. I have a pinched nerve in my back but when it acts up it feels different. This is also in my left leg and hip.
