Good one. Thanks.
I went from standing 18 to 20 hours a day (working two jobs) to only about couple a day. Im about 50 pounds overweight and currently sleeping using a airmatress (break-up with the girlfriend, she kept everything). this happened almost immediately after I left from my strenous two jobs and leaving the girlfriend. BTW the exercise did help. kinda. Thanks
Thank you ! This was extremely helpful. I had been doing a different stretch that was helping. I will try this stretch again in the morning ( when the sciatica is worse ) and see what the response is. If you don’t mind, you mention strengthening the lower back muscles. Are there certain exercises that you recommend to help?
i’m afraid this stretch doesn’t work for me..i’m too flexible for it already :/
@littlegiant1972 DE NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDAAAAAAAAAAAA! Glad it helped:)
G R A CI A SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS………..excellent!
thank you!!
when I attempt that 1st crossover stretch I have severe pinching in my lower outside thigh. It feels like a fish hook is grabbing a long nerve.
this stretch worked very well to ease my sciatica pain. thanks for posting!
after you start doing these stretches, what exercises do you do to strengthen the weak muscles in the back area so the sciatica nerve problem doesnt return?
Many years ago, I severely injured my L5. The doctor said that this goo that is inside the disc, oozed out and will turn to irreparable scar tissue. The healing and rehab caused a tilt in my ilium. 4 years ago, it got cold and my sciatic nerve got angry;no amount of pain killers could ebb the pain, not even morphine. This went on for 1 month.I accidentally found a stretch for sciatica.Stand with hands on knees and GENTLY/SLIGHTLY straighten out legs, keep your head up and breathe real deep.
I had to completely stop running for like 3 weeks because my sciatic pain was so bad, but this totally helped and I am starting to run again finally
@kcannone Yes, I’ve been training for powerlifting for a couple of months and back chain stretching is useful specially for us who stress back and legs muscles…
@Giuseppecorso your english is perfect:) Don’t forget you can do this stretch even if you don’t feel the pain, in many cases it will prevent it from coming back.
@kcannone I thought it was something more serious but now I feel better…thank you very much…(sorry for my english)
@Giuseppecorso Great! Glad it helped it…
The seated variation is effective, I felt an immediate relief after trying it…
i got sciatica in my left leg last week , it was excrusiating pain but now the pain has gone down an awful lot since i started to get phsio on it ,i have only a slight bit of pain left ,but it doesnt bother me much at all , my calve is fairly weak and tight and i really want to get it back to full strength soon so i can play sports , do u know how i can rebuild the strength in my calve and also does it seem to be close to recovering based on what i told you , and also the numbness is almost gone
@timothybohn1 Hope it helps!
I have had sciatica pain for more then a month now and ir goes down the back of my leg,I will try this stretch and hope it works. Thanks
@allthatjazzphotos there is a variation you can do while sitting in a chair. Don’t be discouraged as it is a difficult position to be in when you have a lot of pain..
do a google search for Sciatica Stretch, there will be a few videos (one where Jesse is sitting in a chair) Watch that video and see if it is easier to start with.
Hope it helps!
Keith
It took me a few minutes and several tears to get to the floor and once I was there, I was terrified to incur more pain, but I was able to get my back leg bent and up on my other knee. The stretch felt some relief, but I had to call my husband to help me back up. Perhaps I need to be more limber or in less pain?
great sreth ty
@wardd413 You are welcome!
Excellent video and suggestions! Thanks for your tips.
@sonnychow1 The same exercise in the “Sciatica Exercises, Part 1″ video can be used for prevention – a minute or so at a time, a few times daily. Also, any exercise that strengthens the “core” – the abdominal and oblique muscles – will help to stabilize and protect the lower spine, which helps prevent sciatica problems.
Thank you very much for your reply. Can you please advise me what exericise which will prevent this happening again (sciatic nerve pains)? Looking forward to hear from you soon. Thank you
@DrGeorgeBest I really appreciate your help I’ll take your advise and look for a good chiro, Thanks a million!!
Go n-eiri an bothair leat
@ikeelyouall1641 Usually when the muscle won’t release it’s because it’s compensating for another problem. My guess would be that either the sacroiliac or hip joint is not moving properly and that’s keeping the muscle tight. I suggest seeing a chiropractor to get that checked out and see what can be done. Not all chiros are the same though, so try to get a referral from someone who’s had a good experience or find one in the phone book with a listing only (a sign that they get referral business).
@DrGeorgeBest Thanks a mil for getting back to me , i’ll definately watch the vids, my physio told me it was referal pain from my obturator infernus, which in my case(large glutes) is really hard to get massaged, he’s done something called dry needling on it ,that gave me relief for a while but as soon as i start exercising again boom, afterwards im in bits i get , thing is i’ve been strechin the shit out of it, for over a year now with no real progress thanks again
@ikeelyouall1641 It sounds like you are probably having muscle referral pain, either from the piriformis or the gluteus minimus. I suggest you watch my “Sciatica Exercises, Part 2 – Revenge of the Piriformis” video, and look up some stretches for the gluteus minimus. You might also benefit from some deep tissue massage for those muscles too. Good luck!
I have pain down my buttock, and into the hamstring, but i’ve had a lumbar MRI scan and everything was fine no disc damage or stenosis, i’ve been in pain after exercise, had physio but still in pai, any advise? Thanks
@sonnychow1 It can take several months to get maximum improvement in sciatica symptoms, and in a few cases, some symptoms are permanent due to nerve damage caused by the bulging disc. I suggest you checkout my YouTube video, “Sciatica Exercises, Part 1″ and try that exercise, as well as the other self-treatment methods in my free ebook at the website shown on the video. Good luck!
I have been suffering sciatic nerve about 5 weeks, however I still pains on back of my right calf when I was walking, also sometimes I feels numbness of my toe. Can you please advise me when pains will go forever? At the moment I am doing stretching of sciatic nerve pain which make sure my hip contacted with floor and trying to feel relaxing. I’m not taking any medication to ease off my pains. Thank you
thank you DrGeorgeBest i’ll try the exercises and cold pack!!i’llupdate you for any relief thank you and GOD bless
@samia0022 I suggest you start by trying the exercise shown in my YouTube video, “Sciatica Exercises Part 1″. I also suggest you try using cold packs on the low back as per the instructions in my free ebook which you can get from my website (shown on the video). If you don’t get any relief within a week or two, my recommendation is to get an MRI to further assess the situation (I don’t think the scoliosis is the cause). Good luck!
i undergo for X-ray and it shows that i have a mild lumbar scoliosis as the physician said.. i went for a therapy and they give me some daily routines to do so..but it’s not helping i’m flexible and i think my spine is well it’s something in the sciatic nerve down to my lower right limbs.. i worry because i can’t stand or walk long and when i sit it’s hard for me to get up…
i need a couple of advice… please help!!
thank you and GOd
Dr. Drgeorgebest
GOOD Day!!
im only 21 yo & suffering from lower back pain almost 6 mons. at 1st it was tolerable but its getting severe especially wen i have my period.I can’t tolerate it what should i do?
@ Eres DrGeorgeBest espetacular ! Un saludo DESDE Barcelona.
@evieloveskyle Most cases of sciatica are due to bulging discs. Regular X-rays do not show the discs, only the space that they occupy, so you can’t tell whether any of the discs are bulging from an X-ray. MRI or CT is necessary to see the discs themselves, and even then certain disc problems may not be visible. In a case like yours in which the symptoms have been present for several weeks, I think an MRI would be appropriate to diagnose you further and determine treatment options. Good luck!
@evieloveskyle …what i did was avoided lifting anything, and tryed to stay active, when i sit down i tried keeping my back straight in a natural way and do not sit on slanted seat either sit on a flat sit or where ur ass is higher, but do not sit on a seat with a downward slope, iv noticed this makes it worse, and i also do about 1 hour walks everday and do gentle stretches after walk. Since then, iv seen a huge difference.
@evieloveskyle thankyou, what u just descrived is EXACTLY what im going through, BUT for the last 3 days iv seen a huge improvement, i know its only 3 days but the pain has gone down ALOT, i can now walk, sit and stand, walk without a limp, i can now bend forward, the pain is still there sometimes especially in mornings but not as much as before and it gradually goes away.
@KhanioProductions i totally understand what you mean, it is hard to change clothes, even brush my teeth or wash my face i cant lean over or anything its insane. When i drive my tendons and nerves start to pull and hurt. I cant stand to long, sit, or lay. i wish it would go away and to add i have to take muscle relaxers, pain killers and vicodin that does nothing but causes me to sleep all day
i hope you get better. good luck
I hurt my back 2 months ago, i have pain that comes from the sciatic nerve shoots down the right side of my leg to my knee then my ankle. i sometimes feel the pain up to my neck and around my abdomen all along my right side it gets really painful, its also hard to drive. I had an xray done recently & Dr said that there was nothing wrong. TO, me the pain is really bad it feels like there is something wrong should i request an MRI for a more detailed look would that really even make a diffrence?
@KhanioProductions whatever i had was really painfull but i know the exact cure that worked for me. i joined a gym with a foam roller, and used it daily the foam roller really helps me. roll along the illotial band while holding yourself up, if its tight its gonna hurt, like a bitch, but stick it out. look into the foam roller it saved me, hopefully it can help others.
@keepitacrime i had it for 3 months, and its at its worst now, not only can i not drive, i cant work or even get changed anymore, im going for walks everyday, and now even thats becoming very hard to do. i dont know what to do anymore…
@sunnyperdesi I recommend you try the exercise shown in my YT video, “Sciatica Exercises, Part 1″. You may also find the self-treatment tips in my free ebook helpful. It’s available on the website shown on the my videos. Good luck!
it helps my back if i put pillow folded length ways under my thighs towards my knees when i’m sitting
